Helen M. (Zimmerman) Vogelsong

Helen M. (Zimmerman) Vogelsong passed onto her heavenly home peacefully on April 18, 2024, at the age of 88. Up until the end, Helen maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, joy and love for God, family, and friends.

Helen married Lester L Vogelsong in February 1952 and moved into the farmhouse on Wertzville Road in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where she went on to live for the next 72+ years.  Despite working hard on the farm and raising nine of their own children and babysitting many, many others along the way, Helen still managed to pursue a career at Highmark Blue Shield, where she was a claims adjuster for over 30 years.

Helen loved her church and country and was devoted to her family. She embodied the best of qualities:  unconditional love, strength of spirit, radiant joy, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends. To know Helen was to know Jesus.

Helen endured many hardships along her life‘s journey, but through them all taught others around her what it looked like to truly trust God and do hard things. She didn’t always like the circumstances she needed to walk through, but trusted in God‘s faithfulness and sovereignty to get her through.

Helen will forever be an inspiration and guiding light to her family and loved ones. Her legacy and love will be forever etched on the hearts and minds of all those fortunate enough to know Helen M. Vogelsong this side of heaven.

She is survived by three children: Bradley J. Vogelsong, of Carlisle, PA, Lester L. Vogelsong Jr., of Carlisle, PA and Rose M., married to Joseph Block, of College Grove, TN.   Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren as well as Helen’s extended family and caring friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by children: Vickie L. Crone, Robert L. Vogelsong, Kenneth E. Vogelsong, Barbara A. Vogelsong, Sharon K. Cree, Shirley A. Deiter and one grandson, Keith A. Crone.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt. Zion Drive, Enola, PA  17025, with Reverend John F. 4. When I was young, Helen and I would have talks, just she and I. These talks always meant a lot to me. She would give me a smile that felt like a smile just for me. She was a beautiful woman who trusted and followed God. We will see each other again someday… a day I will cherish.
